A nuclear program deal forged between Western powers and Iran over uranium enrichment appears to be in doubt as a Friday agreement deadline has passed without Iranian approval.
Iran has seemingly taken exception to the idea of sending its uranium abroad for enrichment, saying it would rather purchase the uranium for its research reactor. The International Atomic Energy Agency proposed the idea and it was agreed upon by the U.S., France and Russia but has now hit a snag with Iranian officials.
Iran’s nuclear program has been a cause for concern among Western powers, many of whom believe Iran is working to develop nuclear weapons. Those beliefs have been dismissed by Iran which has insisted their nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
While Iran was given until Friday to officially respond to the new deal the country’s negotiator has said they would provide their response to the IAEA sometime next week.
Iran’s delays have been a disappointment to the U.S., France and Russia and could lead to further sanctions
