Somer Thompson Mom Has Message for Killer

The mom of a murdered Florida child has a message for her daughter’s killer – you will pay. Two days after the body of Somer Thompson was found in a Georgia landfill, Diena Thompson stood outside her Orange Park, Florida home and tearfully warned the person responsible for her daughter’s death.

“I want you to know that I will not sleep until this person is found. I hope they get you and I hope that they make you pay for a long, long time. You don’t take from somebody. You didn’t just take her from me. You took her from my family, you took her from all these people,” Thompson said. “And you don’t do this to a little baby and put my baby in the trash like she’s nothing. That’s not OK, this is not OK.”

Somer’s body was found Thursday morning. The 7-year-old was walking home from school with several children on Monday when she became separated from them and disappeared.

The preliminary autopsy has been completed but authorities have not provided details on the cause of death. A $30,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of Somer’s killer.
