For the second time in two years, Catherine Zeta-Jones is seeking treatment for bipolar II disorder. A rep for Zeta-Jones has confirmed the actress recently checked into an unidentified health care facility. The length of her stint remains unclear.
“Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility," Cece Yorke tells People magazine. "Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner."
Michael Douglas is very supportive of his wife’s decision, according to an insider. "He couldn't be more supportive, just like she is of him. They're solid," a friend of the couple tells People.
Another source says seeking additional treatment was “always” in the cards for Zeta-Jones. "There was no big problem," says the source. "This was just a good time to do it. She is in between projects. This has always been part of the plan.”
Jones first sought treatment at a Connecticut hospital in April 2011. She then opened up about her diagnosis in People magazine. "This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them," she said. "If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help."
Zeta-Jones, 43, can be seen next alongside Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren and Anthony Hopkins in Reds 2. The action film is set to hit theaters on July 19.
