Take the Sampletype Route to High Quality DNA Extracts

Dresden, Germany, May 01, 2013 -- At this year’s Forensics Europe Expo in London, Biotype launched the Sampletype i-sep® ONEprep buffer set, complementing the Sampletype i-sep® columns. Applied together, both systems guarantee with only 20 min preparation time fast and reliable DNA extractions optimized for direct PCR amplification. The Sampletype i-sep® System embodies simple lysis protocols and the quantitative separation of the DNA-lysate from the substrate in a single tube assembly. This dramatically rationalizes the off-line lysis portion of the extraction method.

Clinics, forensic labs, foodstuff inspection or veterinary medicine, they all face the challenge to make the most out of nothing. Often only small amounts of a sample are available to generate a solid diagnosis, a reliable DNA-profile or a proof of pathogens or contaminations, respectively. Sampletype i-sep® System protocols maximize the DNA-yield in particle-free lysates even with poor amounts of specimen. The lysis buffer is added directly into the filter column along with the sample for incubation. A sealed membrane prevents any lysis buffer drainage during incubation. The simple and fast separation of the lysate from the substrate is achieved by the centrifugation force, which opens the membrane seal, thus enabling lysate flow-through. This eliminates the manual lysate and substrate transfer steps, saves time and minimizes cross-contamination s as well as sample transpositions.

Using Sampletype i-sep® ONEprep buffer enables the DNA preparation of biological fluids and tissues to be completed in less than 30 minutes and allows direct amplification of the resulting DNA-lysate without further purification. Thereby the usability of Biotype’s Sampletype i-sep® System ranges from standard DNA extractions to complex sample preparation processes, such as differential extraction of mixed specimens or DNA isolation from histological material (FFPE-tissue).
