On Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 9pm EDT (01:00 UT), the DeepSkyDivas will be hosting a special "Galilean Nights" episode on Astronomy.FM Radio that will feature "all things Galileo," including the astronomer, the NASA mission, and more, with a live online audio/visual presentation.
The International Year of Astronomy 2009 Cornerstone project, Galilean Nights, runs October 22-24, 2009. Hundreds of thousands of people all around the world will experience their own "Galileo moment" when they look up at the sky through a telescope for the first time. Galilean Nights is a global experience, with more than 1000 public observing events in over 70 countries. The special program offered by Astronomy.FM is a fun way for those unable to attend a local event, or where weather is uncooperative, to particpate in this global event.
In addition to the radio program, Astronomy.FM and Global-Rent-A-Scope have partnered for a special three-day Galilean Nights promotion offering free telescopic imaging time to internet users around the world. Just as the IYA2009 aims to stimulate interest in astronomy and science, AFM and GRAS seek to encourage greater participation in various astronomy activities, including deep-sky imaging and knowledge sharing.
