College Football Scores: #12 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Roll Over Virginia Cavaliers in ACC Clash

Josh Nesbitt threw for 85 yards and rushed for another 82 while tacking on a pair of touchdown runs, Jonathan Dwyer collected 125 yards on the ground and Anthony Allen ran for 102 yards and two TDs as the #12 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (7-1, 5-1) pounded the Virginia Cavaliers (3-4, 2-1) 34-9 on Saturday in ACC action.

Tech opened the scoring in the first quarter with a Scott Blair 24-yard field goal but Virginia answered with a 49-yard boot from Robert Randolph to tie the game. Randolph then put the Cavaliers in front 6-3 in the opening seconds of the second quarter with a 19-yard field goal but the Yellow Jackets countered with a solid drive capped by a one-yard TD run from Nesbitt to put Tech ahead 10-6. Blair then extended that lead to 13-6 as time expired in the half with his second field goal of the game.

The second half opened with a dominant drive by the Yellow Jackets as they ate up more than ten minutes, eventually ending on a one-yard TD run by Anthony Allen to give Georgia Tech a 20-6 advantage. Virginia put together their own impressive drive following the Tech touchdown but they had to settle for another Randolph field goal to get the Cavaliers within 20-9 early in the fourth.

Georgia Tech’s offensive machine continued to pound away at the Virginia defense and Allen found the endzone for the second time on a 20-yard run to push the lead to 27-9 and the ground attack would put more points on the board six minutes later as Nesbitt scored on a 2-yard run to cap the scoring.

The Yellow Jackets ground game produced 362 yards compared to just 30 for the Cavaliers and Georgia Tech had a 42:38-17:22 advantage in time of possession.
