Tom Brady was 23/32 passing for 308 yards and three touchdowns, Wes Welker had 107 yards receiving and a TD and the New England Patriots (5-2) defense picked off Josh Johnson three times in a 35-7 blasting of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7) in London on Sunday.
It was the Patriots defense that provided the first points of the game as Brandon Meriweather returned a Johnson pick 39-yards for a touchdown and a quick 7-0 lead. That was extended to 14-0 later in the frame after Brady hit Welker on a 14-yardstrike and New England was rolling.
Brady didn’t make it any easier for the Tampa in the second as he found Sam Aiken on a 54-yard touchdown toss for a commanding 21-0 advantage. Tampa would manage to stop the bleeding with less than two minutes left in the half as Johnson found Antonio Bryant on a 33-yard touchdown pass to keep the Bucs in the game at 21-7 at the break.
New England came out in the third and convinced the Bucs there would be no comeback as Brady hit Benjamin Watson on a 35-yard touchdown pass and that 28-7 lead was more than enough for the Patriots defense.
Laurence Maroney would finish off the scoring for the Patriots midway through the fourth quarter with a one-yard touchdown run.
