Skillings Mining Review Magazine - May Issue 2013 Features Global Mining Deals

The May issue of mining analysis and news magazine Skillings Mining Review is now available, featuring the outlook for 2013 for industry mergers and acquisitions, including details of asset rationalization trends and steelmakers seeking to purchase iron ore mines.

The new issue also features an interview with Xstract Mining Consultants principal Mark Noppe, formerly of Anglo American Corporation, who discusses the insights gained and challenges faced by mining industry consultants called upon to solve problems and offer integral solutions to mining operations.

In addition, the May issue of Skillings reports on details of Gogebic Taconite’s preparation for exploratory drilling in northern Wisconsin’s Penokee-Gogebic mountains, as part of its plans to develop what could become one of the world’s largest open-pit projects. The drilling plans follow the recent Wisconsin legal reform easing restrictions on ferrous mine permitting.

Other top stories include an overview of new safety innovations being seen in the industry, as well as words from Australian analysts on whether the country will be able to rely on mining tax revenue. Australia is also looking at whether to lift the 24-year ban on transporting uranium through the Great Barrier Reef.

Additional reporting covers central bank gold purchasing, recent iron ore stock volatility, US steel and iron ore production statistics for the month, shipping news in South Africa and the Great Lakes, and stories on mining in China, the Solomon Islands, Argentina, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Gabon as well as regional coverage within the US and Australia.

Mining companies reported on in this month’s issue are Alpha Natural Resources, Curis Resources, PolyMet Mining, Cline Resources and Development, Vale’s Rio Colorado Project, BHP Billiton’s Belinga Project, and China Gold International Resources Corp. New appointments at Kinross Gold Corporation, FDG Mining Inc, and Lonmin PLC are also reported on.

Its international team of reporters covers perspectives from industry analysts and professionals as well as industry news, tendencies and events ranging from mine operations and project exploration to legal, safety and political issues related to mining and steel production.
