Death Toll from Baghdad Bombings Tops 150, Wounded Number in the Hundreds

The death toll from Sunday’s suicide bombings in Iraq has now topped 150 people and officials are expecting that figure to rise as several of the 500 injured suffered serious wounds.

Authorities say the suicide bombers used a truck and a car, both packed with explosives, to carry out the attack. Both bombs were detonated around the same time and targeted government buildings near the Green Zone in Baghdad.

While the Green Zone is said to be among the safest areas in Iraq the bombers, said to be linked with al-Qaeda, appeared to have little trouble getting near the area. The bombings took place during rush hour while the streets were full with people heading to work.
