Dawna Lee Heising of Eye on Entertainment has
announced an interview with filmmaker Mark Savage at Polymedia Studios in
Orange on April 23, 2013, for the nationally broadcast television series. John Cox filmed and edited the segment. Savage discussed his latest movies, including
"Pond Scum", "Fertisle" and "Kinderplay", all in
post-production. “Pond Scum” is about "A wronged woman who heads for Los Angeles
to settle a score with an ex-boyfriend. Unfortunately, her plans are upended by
a chance and brutal encounter with a monstrous killer/rapist.”
Savage also discussed his upcoming film, “Circus
of Dread”, starring Bill Oberst Jr., Vida Ghaffari, Domiziano Arcangeli, Dawna
Lee Heising, Gary Cairns, Rich Goteri and Jasi Cotton Lanier (credits not
contractual). “Circus of Dread” continues Savage’s obsession with capturing the
horror of man’s duality. The feature with strong horror overtones is now in
active development at CineNature, an international production company with
interests in US, Japan and Australian film production. Savage is also set to collaborate on an
upcoming movie project with veteran actor Aki Aleong, to be filmed in the
United States and in China, called “Swan Song”.
Savage first achieved fame as an underground
cult filmmaker specializing in brutal, gory psychological thrillers and horror
movies. He directed dozens of short films beginning at age 14 before moving on
to direct feature films, numerous commercials, music videos and industrial
films. His love affair with the cinema began in Australia, when, at the age of
14, he purchased a Super-8 camera with monies he had earned working at
McDonald’s. Savage is proud of his
earliest efforts at weekend film making projects. His rare Super 8 films, including “Methusarla,
Guardian of Hell” and “Rogues” were included in the Subversive Cinema release
of “Savage Sinema From Down Under,” a retrospective look at Savage's more than
two decade career that includes an amazing selection of supplements and feature
films such as “Marauders,”“Defenceless” and “Sensitive New Age Killer.”
An entry on Savage and his work in The
Journal of Underground Film http://www.badlit.com/?tag=mark-savage says: "Mark Savage is also a voracious
cinephile, particularly of European and Asian cult cinema, and has written for
several print publications." In 2007, Fangoria magazine ran a six-page
career profile on him. Savage watches at least one movie a day and is the
author of the blog “Phantom of Pulp,” which can be found at
phantomofpulp.blogspot.com
Savage is a genre film maniac, and his blog
posts are filled with images and memories of his favorite horror and
exploitation films. Savage also includes practical tips for aspiring filmmakers
in his blog.
