Award-winning benchmarking, sourcing and transformation advisory firm, Alsbridge, Inc., releases a two-part report on best practices for managing the next generation of converged networks.
According to a new report from Alsbridge, the next generation of converged networks is a borderless network that supports multimedia and multi-modal transactions, operated with a simplified management structure in which the applications are prioritized for optimal performance.
While today's network and infrastructure teams do a heroic job of enabling their businesses' next generation converged networks to process requests quickly, and handle the exploding demands of Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), video over IP, enterprise applications and access to cloud solutions and data centers, their efforts are frequently subverted by a range of internal and external factors. Impediments include routing convergence, unauthorized devices performing scans, incorrectly set desktop, switch, router and server parameters, quality of service tagging, improperly configured ports, oversubscribed real time queues, duplicate IP addresses, performance-hogging applications, and inconsistent carrier and provider management.
“Even the best-architected networks can suffer from mild to major execution issues,” says Ben Trowbridge, Founder and CEO of
Alsbridge. “But, just as with a brand new top-of-the-line Cadillac, users simply expect flawless performance and they have no interest in technical excuses if service is sub-par. Just as mechanics can't evaluate how fuel injectors, spark plugs, drive belts or after-market add-ons are performing without lifting a car's hood, network managers can't manage, measure or improve what they can't see or on which they lack the right data.”
The report from Alsbridge offers guidelines on visibility tools and big data for the data network that will enable network managers to enhance their network operations, make better, more disciplined decisions, and provide superior service to their enterprise-wide customers.
“Network managers face a major uphill battle in provisioning expected flawless performance to all end users in their enterprise. But with the right visibility tools and data, they will be well armed to address the challenges they face every day,” Trowbridge explained.
