Greg Oden scored 17 pints and grabbed 14 rebounds while Jamar Butler finished with 18 points and the #2 Ohio State Buckeyes (25-3) snuck past the Penn State Nittany Lions (10-16) 68-60.
Penn State proved to be just as tough as they were a week ago when they fell to Ohio State 64-62. In Wednesday night’s game the Nittany Lions played solid defense and actually held the lead 27-24 at the break.
Even after surrendering the lead early in the second half the Lions fought back and held a 45-43 advantage with less than eight minutes left. But Ohio State was determined not to fall to an unranked opponent after witnessing the #1 Wisconsin Badgers collapse against the Michigan State Spartans on Tuesday.
The Buckeyes were up 51-48 with just under six minutes to play and used a 10-2 run to put away Penn State.
Ohio State struggled from beyond the three-point line, hitting just 27 percent.
Geary Claxton led Penn State with 15 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
Ohio State stayed on course for their big match-up on Sunday when they host their Big Ten rivals Wisconsin. The Buckeyes improved to 13-1 in the conference and are ½ a game in front of the Badgers atop the Big Ten. Penn State fell to 1-12 in conference play.
