U.N. Staff Members Among the Dead in Attack on Guest House in Afghanistan

An attack on a guest house used by U.N. staff members in the Afghan capital of Kabul has left at least five people dead, three believed to be members of the United Nations.

According to reports there was heavy gunfire at the house shortly after dawn on Wednesday and it is now believed there are several hostages held by the Taliban. That belief is based on a text message sent by the Taliban to the news agency Reuters in which it stated “Several Taliban suiciders (took) hostage several UN workers in Kabul.”

Streets around the building have been blocked by police who are now trying to gain control of the situation.
