College Basketball AP Top 25 Results: #4 North Carolina Tar Heels Use Second Half Surge to Crush N.C. State

The #4 North Carolina Tar Heels (24-4) allowed their in-state rival N.C. State Wolfpack (14-12) stay close for the first half but used a 23-10 second half surge to cruise to an 83-64 win.

Brandon Wright scored 24 points and grabbed 6 rebounds while Tyler Hansbrough added 20 points and 7 boards to pace the Tar Heels.

The first half went back and forth and the Wolfpack had established a 28-22 lead just past the midway point but the Tar Heels stayed close and closed the half with a 41-20 advantage.

Overmatched, the Wolfpack could do little in the second half to stay close to the Tar Heels. North Carolina used a 12-4 run to go up by 14 points and then moments later sealed the game with an 11-1 run to put the lead at 21.

North Carolina shot 50 percent from the floor and hit 45 percent of their three-point attempts in the game. The Tar Heels also dominated the glass with a 41-23 advantage over the Wolfpack.

The win move North Carolina to 10-3 in the ACC, a game ahead of Virginia Tech and Virginia. N.C. State fell to 4-9 in the conference.
