Kobe Bryant scored 33 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, Andrew Bynum added 26 points and 13 boards and Lamar Odom finished with 16 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as the Los Angeles Lakers used a fourth quarter surge to get past the Los Angeles Clippers 99-92 on Tuesday night.
The Lakers looked ready to dominate from the outset as Kobe Bryant scored 13 points in the opening frame to build a 32-22 advantage heading into the second. That lead was inflated to 15 points after Ron Artest buried a three-pointer early in the second but the Clippers managed to chip away at the lead and Sebastian Telfair had his squad as close as 40-37 after hitting a jumper with 5:43 left in the half. The Clippers would stay within that margin until the Lakers closed the half on a 15-8 spurt that put them in front 59-49.
Bryant kept the Lakers cushion comfortable for most of the third quarter but the Clippers did make a move at the end of the frame and an 8-2 run pulled them to within 76-75 heading into the fourth. The Lakers wouldn’t fold though and opened the final quarter with a 10-2 spurt that gave them some breathing room and the Clippers would never get closer than seven the rest of the way.
Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 21 points while Chris Kaman had a strong opener with 18 points and 16 rebounds.
The Lakers managed to win the game at the foul line as they finished the game 25-37 from the stripe while the Clippers shot from the line just 16 times, sinking 11 of those attempts.
