Elizabeth Olten Laid to Rest, Teen Girl Charged in Her Murder

Elizabeth Olten’s family and close friends are gathering today for the 9-year-old’s funeral service and burial. Olten disappeared in her St. Martins, Missouri neighborhood October 21 while walking home from a friend’s house. Investigators have charged an unnamed 15-year-old female with Olten’s murder.

According to reports, the teen was the older sister of Olten’s friend. The girl has been charged with first degree murder and is currently in the custody of a juvenile court. The court will decide whether she will be tried as an adult.

The girl led police to Olten’s body in the woods near her home. “We were able to obtain some physical evidence and through some analysis of some of the evidence and in all honesty some written evidence, we were able to develop a person of interest," Cole County Sheriff Greg White said. "Once we reached that person and interviewed them, ultimately, they led us to where we've recovered Elizabeth's body."

Olten’s cause of death has not been released.
