John Cochran Wins Survivor: Caramoan Fans Vs. Favorites

After 39 days of challenges, rewards and near starvation, an unlikely final three made their case to the jury on Survivor: Caramoan. The finale begins with Cochran, Dawn, Sherri, Eddie and Erik leaving tribal council following Brenda’s shocking ouster. Erik suddenly collapses from dizziness and medics are quickly called in. The medic determines Erik’s body is shutting down from starvation. They start an IV immediately and Erik is given the devastating news that he is pulled from the game.

Erik’s misfortune is Cochran’s gain – a reward challenge will be held in place of the planned immunity challenge. The winner will receive an advantage in the final immunity challenge. Cochran wins the reward.

For the immunity challenge, the final four must run up stairs to retrieve bags of puzzle pieces. Cochran’s advantage comes in the form of no knots on his bags, which means he will save time because he doesn’t have to untie his bags from poles. Cochran retrieves all of his bags first, but he loses his lead at the puzzle table. Dawn initially takes the lead on the puzzle, but Cochran soon catches on and makes short work of his puzzle. He wins his third individual immunity challenge of the season.

Cochran’s win puts him in a place of power – he must decide which two people he wants to go against for the $1 million. Sherri is a no brainer, but he has to think carefully about Dawn and Eddie. He ends up taking Dawn.

Hardly any of the jury questions were directed at Sherri because no one felt she did anything to deserve to be in the final 3. Dawn was attacked for her numerous emotional breakdowns and her betrayal of Brenda. Brenda, still bitter about her elimination, forced Dawn to remove the fake teeth she lost to prove that she wouldn’t have left the game if Brenda hadn’t have found them for her. Cochran got off easy with the jury and everyone seemed to respect the way he played the game.

At the live reunion, Cochran was crowned the winner by a unanimous vote. "Obviously, it feels incredible," the 26-year-old Harvard Law graduate said after his win. "I've loved this game for half of my life. It's a dream come true.”
