Dennis Johnson, the quite point man that led the Boston Celtics to two NBA Championships in the ‘80’s has died. Johnson collapsed while playing in a pick-up game while coaching the Austin Toros of the NBA Developmental League. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the cause of death. Johnson was 52-years-old.
Best remembered as the man who dished off passes to Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parrish, few remember the man who could take over a game when needed. Proving himself to be a capable scorer in his own right, Dennis Johnson led the Seattle Supersonics to an NBA Championship in 1979. Johnson was named the series MVP after averaging 22.6 points and 6 rebounds per game in the five-game series against the Washington Bullets.
Johnson finished his 14-year career with 15,535 points and played in five NBA All-Star Games. His tenacious defense earned him All-Defensive First Team on six occasions.
