A ransom demand for the British couple recently kidnapped by Somali pirates is expected to be made shortly while the government continues to search for the yacht that was seized by the attackers.
Paul and Rachel Chandler were sailing to Tanzania on Friday when their 38-foot yacht was seized by pirates near Seychelles. A distress signal was sent from the yacht but the pirates managed to board the vessel and are believed to be holding the couple for an unknown ransom.
Pirates informed Reuters news agency that they had captured the British couple and would be releasing a ransom demand shortly.
There have been reported sightings of the yacht but authorities have not confirmed that the vessel was owned by the couple.
