Former Nazi SS Member on Trial in Germany

A former Nazi SS member who has admitted to killing three civilians in the Netherlands in 1944 is now on trial in Germany to face charges tied to the wartime murders.

Heinrich Boere, 88, was declared fit for trial by an appeal court, allowing the case to proceed but Wednesday’s hearing was adjourned until Monday as the five-judge panel considers more legal argument.

Boere originally admitted to the killings after Dutch authorities took him into custody after the murders but he managed to escape prior to his trial and fled to Germany. According to Boere the killings were in response to the Dutch resistance to Germany’s wartime push.
