The #4 UCLA Bruins (24-3) got off to a slow start but steadily picked up the pace and then sprinted past the California Golden Bears (14-13) in the second half for an 85-75 win. It was the Bears who looked like the number four team in the nation after jumping to a 14-4 lead to start the game but the Bruins quickly cut into their deficit and by halftime held a one point advantage, 35-34.
For the first few minutes of the second half California stayed one point behind but then the Bruins went on a 26-12 run and followed that with a 10-0 run to put the Bears away.
Josh Shipp finished with 22 points for the Bruins while Arron Afflalo added 13 in the win. Lorenzo Mata had a strong game for the Bruins with 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Both teams shot the ball extremely well as UCLA finished 61 percent from the field and Cal was 60 percent from the floor. The Bears were 61 percent from beyond the three-point line.
UCLA moved to 13-2 in the Pac-10, they now have a two game lead over Washington State. The loss dropped California to 6-9 in conference play.
