The Washington Wizards (31-21) blew a 17-point fourth quarter lead against the Sacramento Kings (23-30) but managed to squeeze out a narrow 109-106 victory after the Kings’ final shot was ruled late.
With .7 seconds remaining Brad Miller threw an inbounds pass nearly 80-feet to John Salmons who turned and fired a perfect bucket and it appeared as if the game was heading to overtime. After the officials reviewed the play it was determined that Salmons’ shot was a fraction late and Washington had the three-point win.
Gilbert Arenas had 30 points in the first half and finished with 43 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists while Caron Butler had 25 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.
Ron Artest led the Kings with 32 points and 6 rebounds and Mike Bibby ended the night with 30 points.
Both teams shot alright from the floor, Sacramento at 50 percent and Washington at 47 percent but the Kings wee awful from the free-throw line, hitting 15-27 for a 59 percent clip. Neither team took very good care of the ball either, as they combined for 47 turnovers in the game. Gilbert Arenas had 9 of those turnovers.
