Intelligent InSites, Inc., the leading provider of real-time operational intelligence for healthcare, will host a webinar on May 23, 2013, at 12:00 pm CT, entitled “The Magic of the Intelligent Hospital – RTLS in Action.” Two recipients of HIMSS13 Intelligent Hospital™ awards, the Department of Veterans Affairs and Group Health, will be sharing best practices for enterprise RTLS/RFID success.

During the webinar, healthcare providers will hear from Michael McDonald, MS, CCE, VISN 11 Biomedical Engineering POC, U.S. Department Of Veterans Affairs, recipient of the Improving Regulatory Compliance Award and 2013 Intelligent Hospital Grand Award, and Donnell Coomes, Senior Project Director, Group Health Cooperative, recipient of the 2013 Most Innovative Use Case Award at HIMSS13.

“The Intelligent Hospital™ Pavilion at HIMSS13 generated tremendous excitement among healthcare systems, hospitals, and clinics as they could see real-life examples of how the latest innovative technologies and solutions can help improve clinical care, operational efficiency, and the satisfaction of staff, patients, and their families,” said Marcus Ruark, Vice President of Intelligent InSites. “We are pleased to share with healthcare professionals a roadmap to making the magic of the Intelligent Hospital a reality for their healthcare system, and to provide answers to questions like ‘What are the preparation tasks and baseline activities before starting the implementation process’ or ‘What are the best practices for successful enterprise-wide deployment of an RTLS solution?’ and certainly ‘What does it take to manage continuous process improvement and achieve enterprise-wide success?’”

About the2013 Intelligent Hospital Grand Award Recipient:
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs VISN 11 is one of 21 Veterans Integrated Service Networks serving 8.3 million veterans and injured active duty personnel annually. Already a national leader in employing heath care technology, VISN 11 is actively deploying RTLS solutions to seven VA Medical Centers in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, to improve operational efficiency and the quality of care; decrease operational costs; maximize equipment use; increase efficiencies and staff productivity; minimize lost and misplaced items; and improve customer and staff satisfaction. VISN 11 provides comprehensive inpatient healthcare to over 291,000 Veterans annually. VISN 11’s RTLS implementation, considered the largest and most comprehensive RTLS/RFID implementation to date, targets asset management, sterile processing workflow, consumables tracking, and automated temperature and humidity monitoring.

About the 2013 Most Innovative Use Case Award Recipient:
Group Health Cooperative designed its solution to reduce patient wait times during clinic visits and inpatient care, using infrared and active RFID technology installed at the recently opened medical center in Puyallup, Washington. The center, built to provide care for 30,000 patients annually, uses Group Health’s RTLS-based Integrated Care and Facility Design (ICFD). Patients and staff members wear badges with unique IDs. Upon arrival at the center, patients proceed directly to a care room instead of waiting in a public area. The lab and pharmacy technicians come to the patient, rather than requiring the patient to move from station to station.
