Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson took care of eliminating the pretenders in the early rounds of 'American Idol' and now the viewers have had the opportunity to end the run for four dreamers. In the first vote cast by the public, 'American Idol' saw its contestant pool of 24 shaved to 20 on Thursday night.
Exit stage left Amy Krebs, Nicole Tranquillo, Rudy Cardenas and Paul Kim. The viewers have spoken. Three of the four eliminated were from the left coast with both men from California and Krebs hailing from Washington.
Paul Kim had his return ticket home stamped when he attempted to sing “Careless Whisper.” Simon, Paula and Randy all agreed that Kim’s performance of the song was weak and the public agreed, sending the 25-year-old back home.
For Krebs it may have been more about her personality than her singing voice when it came down to the vote. Criticized by Cowell for having the “personality of a candle” Krebs failed to stand out in the eyes of the public voters.
Tranquillo was headed back to Philly after Thursday night’s show after not doing enough to impress the viewers on her rendition of “Stay.” The 20-year-old got the same parting gifts most get at this stage of the game, kind words from Paula.
The exit of Cardenas was a bit of a surprise but while the judges weren’t unimpressed, the public just didn’t see him as the next 'American Idol'.
'American Idol' will continue with the separation of men and women until the final 12 are determined and then the show will become a free-for-all battle of vocal chords.
