Mario Chalmers scored 18 points and grabbed 7 rebounds while Darrell Arthur finished with 15 points and 11 boards as the #6 Kansas Jayhawks (25-4) blew out the Iowa State Cyclones (14-14) 89-52.
While both teams seemed to start out a little flat it was the Jayhawks who finally got things rolling with a 16-2 run six minutes into the first half. They then closed the half on a 9-0 run and went into the locker room with a 41-15 advantage. The Cyclones offense was dismal in the first 20 minutes, converting on just 5 of 28 shot attempts and it didn’t get any better in the second half.
Kansas opened a 41-point lead early in the second before scaling back on their offensive onslaught. The Jayhawks finished with six players scoring in double figures and shot 52 percent from the floor.
As well as they played offensively, the Jayhawks were equally as impressive on the defensive end. Kansas had a 47-30 advantage on the glass, had 14 steals in the game, and forced 19 turnovers. The pressure they put on Iowa State led to a 32 percent night from the floor for the Cyclones and not a single player scoring in double figures.
The win kept the Jayhawks tied atop the Big 12 with Texas A&M at 12-2. Iowa State dropped to 5-9 in the conference.
