Nick Swisher and JoAnna Garcia tell People magazine they are “overjoyed” by the birth of their first child. The couple reveals they named their baby girl Emerson Jay.
“We are overjoyed, blessed and so full of love that our daughter Emme has finally arrived,” the couple says. “She is healthy, beautiful and vibrant. It’s the best feeling in the world.”
Emme’s birth was revealed Tuesday when the Cleveland Indians put Swisher, 32, on paternity leave.
Garcia, 33, announced her pregnancy last November on Twitter. "Nick and I are expecting our first baby in 2013! Feeling so blessed and beyond excited!" she wrote.
The couple later confirmed they were expecting a daughter. In an interview earlier this month, Swisher said he was “so excited” about having a girl. “I never in a million years thought I'd have a little girl, but over the last six months, the pink and purple dresses that I've bought, I'm telling you. . . My wife, Jo, she says, 'You're going to spoil that little girl so much.' I can't wait, man," he told Ben Lyon. "I talk to her every night. Jo and I, we're so excited to meet her and to bring her in the world and give her a whole lot of love."
