Israel Backs Iranian Nuclear Plan Proposed by UN

Israel has said they would endorse the recent Iranian nuclear plan proposed by the United Nations, a proposal that would closely regulate Iran’s uranium enrichment program.

While Israel has backed the proposal Iran’s response remains unknown despite the International Atomic Energy Agency confirming they received that response. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the proposal a “positive first step” in ensuing Iran did not develop nuclear weapons.

Iran has long insisted that their nuclear program was not intended to build weapons but was created for peaceful purposes. That contention has been ignored by many in the international community and when it was recently discovered that Iran had a second nuclear site concerns about their program were elevated.

Under the new proposal Iran would have to send their uranium outside of the country for further enrichment, something Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has argued against.
