Looking sloppy with a scraggly blonde wig and baggy sweats, troubled actress Amanda Bynes appeared in court Friday morning to face charges of drug possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. The charges stem from a Thursday night arrest at her NYC apartment building.
Police were called to the scene after witnesses reported seeing Bynes smoking marijuana in the lobby. The Hairspray star reportedly threw a bong out of her 36th floor window when police officers arrived. She was taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation before being booked at a nearby police station.
In court Friday morning, Bynes reportedly claimed that the item she threw out the window was actually a vase and not a bong. The judge released Bynes without bail, but warned the actress that a warrant for her arrest would be issued if she fails to return to court on July 9.
Bynes, 27, has not commented. She has had several run-ins with the law over the past year. In 2012, her driver’s license was suspended following a drunk driving charge and two hit-and-run charges.
