Plane Carrying Health Workers Crashes in Brazil, at least Nine Survivors Found

A Cessna C-98 Caravan plane carrying 11 people crashed deep in the Amazon jungle on Thursday and after a massive hunt for the wreckage an Indian tribe has reportedly found the debris and said at least nine of the people on board survived the crash.

Seven of those on board were health workers who were taking part in a vaccination campaign while the other four people on board were crew members.

The plane had departed from Cruzeiro do Sul in the Brazilian state of Acre around 8:30 a.m. local time and an hour later a distress call was made. A massive search launched by the Brazilian air force was launched but they were unable to locate the plane but by midday on Friday members of the Matis tribe informed officials that they had discovered the wreckage.

According to reports the plane was found near the Itui river in the Amazon jungle. The nine survivors are said to be doing well. There was a report saying one person was confirmed dead while one person remains missing.
