American Idol alumni may be returning to run the show! According to reports, show bosses want to revamp the judge’ panel with former contestants and they are said to be starting with Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson.
E! News reports Hudson, who finished seventh on season 3 of American Idol, has signed on as a season 13 judge. Idol bosses allegedly plan to approach season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson next, and either season 2 runner up Clay Aiken or season 8 runner up Adam Lambert.
Hudson has not commented.
The news comes two weeks after Randy Jackson, the last remaining original judge, confirmed he is leaving the show to work on other projects. "Yo! Yo! Yo! To put all of the speculation to the rest, after 12 years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season," he said in a statement on May 9. “I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It's been a life changing opportunity, but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures."
Judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban have yet to confirm rumors of their departures.
