Amanda Bynes parents are reportedly pushing the troubled actress to enter treatment at a psychiatric hospital instead of a drug rehab. Insiders tell RadarOnline.com that Bynes has suffered from mental health problems since her teenage years. While her parents Rick and Lynn are aware she uses drugs, they don’t believe her “problem is rooted in an addiction to drugs.”
“Amanda has been clearly using drugs, yes, including marijuana, but that is just the symptom. The fact is Amanda suffers from severe mental health issues that she refuses to accept. Rick and Lynn want her to seek in-patient treatment at a psychiatric hospital so she can be properly treated,” a source says.
Bynes underwent a psychiatric evaluation at a NYC hospital Thursday evening following an arrest for marijuana possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. Police say personnel at her apartment building called police after they witnessed her smoking marijuana in the lobby. When police arrived at her 36th floor apartment, Bynes allegedly threw a bong out of a window.
The 27-year-old appeared in court Friday morning and reportedly claimed that the item she threw out the window was actually a vase and not a bong. She was released without bail. Bynes must return to court on July 9.
Bynes has not commented on her arrest.
