The #2 Ohio State Buckeyes (26-3) found a way to overcome horrible shooting from the free-throw line and a less than impressive play from their stars to beat the #1 Wisconsin Badgers (26-4) 49-48.
Fortunately for the Buckeyes, their 53 percent clip from the foul-line was matched by an equally appalling 50 percent effort from the Badgers and poor shooting from the field by their two star players. Both Alando Tucker and Kammron Taylor struggled combinig to shoot 9-27 from the floor and Taylor missed the front end of a one-and-one at the end of the game that could have given the Badgers a three point lead.
The Buckeyes capitalized on the Taylor missed free throw and headed down court trailing by one with 20 seconds remaining. Mike Conley Jr. then buried a jumper with six seconds left to give the Buckeyes a one point lead. The Badgers had one last chance but Taylor’s jumper fell short and the Buckeyes had the win.
Ivan Harris led Ohio State with 13 points while Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. each had 11 points and 5 rebounds.
It was a rough week for the Badgers who, after being anointed the AP’s number one team, dropped their game against Michigan State on the 20th and fell to their Big-10 rival Ohio State today.
The win clinched a second consecutive Big 10 title for Ohio State who now have a 14-1 record in the conference while the Badgers dropped to 12-3.
