Tracy McGrady scored 34 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and dished out 6 assists as the Houston Rockets (35-20) beat the Orlando Magic (27-30) 97-93.
The Rockets shot an impressive 14-27 from beyond the three-point line and capitalized off Orlando’s struggles at the free-throw line to grab the win. Orlando hit just 65 percent from the charity strip, missing 14 of their 41 attempts.
Orlando spent the entire game trying to figure out how to deal with McGrady, and when Houston’s top scorer wasn’t shooting there were plenty of his teammates getting open for a shot. Rafer Alston was 5-9 from beyond the three-point arc and finished with 20 points while Luther Head hit 3-5 from downtown and ended his night with 15 points.
The loss was the Magic’s fourth straight and dropped them to the eight seed in the playoff chase, ½ a game ahead of the New Jersey Nets. Dwight Howard finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds but was just 4-8 from the line.
