Forest Whitaker took home his first Academy Award for his performance in “The Last King of Scotland.” His portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin earned him an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role.
Whitaker beat out the performances of Leonard DiCaprio in “Blood Diamond,” Ryan Gosling in “Half Nelson,” Peter O’Toole in “Venus,” and Will Smith in “The Pursuit of Happyness.”
