Desiree Hartsock begins her journey to find love by enduring her share of awkward and embarrassing introductions outside the Bachelorette mansion. The highlights include Diogo, who shows up in a costume of knight’s armor; Zak, a drilling fluid engineer who arrives shirtless and remains that way the entire night; Nick, a tailor/magician that produces a real rose out of a paper rose using fire; and finally Jonathan, a lawyer who presents Desiree with a fantasy suite card and room key.
The cocktail party kicks off with Nick performing his greatest magic trick yet – making Desiree “disappear” with him first. Before Nick can get down to serious talk, Desiree is stolen from him by Brandon. That’s how the night goes; Des is pulled in every direction for quick talks with her potential suitors. Jonathan is the only one who wastes his time with her. Instead of opening up about himself, the 26-year-old pulls her aside twice to insist that she visit his makeshift fantasy suite. Clearly turned off by the offer, Des sends him packing before the rose ceremony.
The first rose of the night goes to Ben, the single dad who brought his 4-year-old son Brody to meet Desiree. The other guys who receive roses before the rose ceremony are Zak, Bryden, Drew, Michael and Nick M. At the rose ceremony Des keeps Brandon, Zack K., Will, Brooks, Juan Pablo, Brad, Kasey, James, Robert, Brian, Dan, Chris, Jeff and Mikey. Diogo, Larry, Nick and Mike R. are sent packing.
