The 'House Bunny' actress has landed a guest role in '90210' which will see her character Gia embark on a relationship with teenage mother Adrianna, played by Jessica Lowndes, in a forthcoming storyline on the US TV show, but bosses have denied it is a bid to boost ratings.
The show's executive producer Rebecca Sinclair said: "This isn't a fling. We're coming at this relationship from a genuine place and not going, 'Let's do a titillating story that will grab some promotion.'
"This is a real aspect of teenager life that's interesting. And there's been a real void in the 90210 universe in terms of gay and bisexual characters."
Rumer - the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis - is due to guest star in the show for three episodes.
Jessica admits she is terrified about filming the scenes.
She said: "I've never kissed a girl before so it's a little nerve-racking."
Jessica is not the only actress who has had reservations about shooting same-sex love scenes.
'Jennifer's Body' actress Amanda Seyfried found it "weird" when she was forced to smooch with her co-star Megan Fox.
She said: "It is just weird. It is a woman. With a woman's smell - soft and floral-y - and maybe the pheromones are different. Something about it felt uncomfortable for me."
