Amanda Bynes’ DUI lawyer has come to her defense in the wake of her drug related arrest in New York City. Richard Hutton tells People magazine that the 27-year-old is a “fine client.” Hutton represents Bynes in her DUI trouble in Los Angeles, but he is not involved in her NYC case.
"I think [reports] are way exaggerated," he said. "I think Amanda's fine. I have no problems with her whatsoever. She's a fine client."
Hutton also says that he believes NYC authorities don’t have “much of a case” against the actress. “Even if you believe everything you hear, it's something that amounts to virtually nothing. And it's my understanding there's not much evidence to back that case up. There's no physical evidence to back it up. I understand there's no marijuana, no pipe,” he said.
Bynes was arrested last Thursday at her Manhattan apartment after building personnel witnessed her smoking marijuana in the lobby. When police arrived, Bynes allegedly threw a bong out a window in her 36th floor unit. She was taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after her arrest. Bynes was later booked for marijuana possession, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence.
Bynes’s DUI trouble stems from an April 6, 2012 arrest in West Hollywood. She was taken into custody after she crashed into a police car and then refused a breathalyzer test. The next hearing is set for July 18.
