BCS Rankings College Football Week 3: Florida Gators Hold at #1 While Texas Longhorns Slip Past Alabama Crimson Tide for #2 Spot
The Florida Gators had little trouble holding on to their #1 ranking in this week’s BCS rankings after dismantling the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday but there was a bit of a shake-up in the standings as the Texas Longhorns were rewarded for their impressive win over Oklahoma State and vaulted past the Alabama Crimson Tide for the #2 spot this week.
Alabama had the week off but could easily reclaim their #2 spot next week with a win over the #9 LSU Tigers. The Tide appear destined to face the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game and the winner would almost certainly find their way into the BCS national championship game.
The Iowa Hawkeyes are hoping they can earn a spot in the BCS title game as well but they still have a tough game with Ohio State left on their schedule and with a couple unimpressive performances over the past two weeks they’ll need to step up to get the bid. Iowa remains #4 in this week’s BCS rankings and are in great position to win the Big Ten and if nothing else a trip to the Rose Bowl.
Jumping three spots this week to land at #5 are the Cincinnati Bearcats who continue to impress and if a few teams ahead of them fall they could earn that national title game berth.
TCU and Boise State held their spots at #6 and #7 respectively while the Oregon Ducks jumped two spots to #8 following their win over the USC Trojans.
