Philip Seymour Hoffman Confirms Rehab Stint

Philip Seymour Hoffman has confirmed he entered rehab for heroin abuse earlier this month. Hoffman, who can be seen next in The Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire, was released last Friday and is now back to work on an upcoming film.

The Oscar-winning actor tells TMZ.com that prescription pill abuse led to snorting heroin. Hoffman, 45, only did heroin for about a week before he decided to complete a 10 day detox program at an unidentified facility on the East coast. TMZ reports Hoffman, who has three children with Mimi O'Donnell, credited "a great group of friends and family" with helping him seek treatment.

Hoffman had reportedly been clean for 23 years before his addiction problems resurfaced last year with prescription medications. Sources say the actor was never shy with his past drug problems and often used his story to help others.

“Philip has always been a role model in recovery,” an insider told RadarOnline.com. “His story inspired thousands of people over the years and he never thought he was too good or too famous to help people.”
