Beef Recall Issued Following Possible E Coli Contamination

Fairbank Farms has issued a recall of more than half-million pounds of ground beef because of possible e coli contamination. The recall was issued Friday for ground beef with sell-by dates of September 19 through September 28.

The packages were sold under several brand names including Acme Markets’ Landcaster Brand Ground Beff, Extra Lean Ground Beef, Giant Food Stores Meatloaf and Meatball Mix and Trader Joe’s Butcher Shop Fine Quality Meats Ground Beef.

The recalled meat has the number ‘EST. 492’ on the inside of the USDA inspection mark or on the nutrition label.

“Consumers who identify these products should return them to the point of purchase for a full refund,” says Fairbank Farms CEO Ron Allen.

Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Virginia, Massachusetts and North Carolina were originally the only states the recall applied too. The recall has now been expanded to all Northeastern and Mid-Atlanta states.

At least one death has been linked to the meat.
