Appliance Recycling Centers of America, Inc. (ARCA) sells household appliances through a chain of Company-owned factory outlet stores under the name ApplianceSmart. The Company also provides turnkey appliance recycling services for electric utilities and other sponsors of energy efficiency programs. ARCA generates revenues from three sources: retail, recycling and byproduct. Retail revenues are generated through the sale of new appliances at its ApplianceSmart factory outlets. Recycling revenues are generated by charging fees for collecting and recycling appliances for utilities and other sponsors of energy efficiency programs. Byproduct revenues are generated by selling scrap materials, such as metal and plastics, and reclaimed chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerants from appliances it collect and recycle, including those from ApplianceSmart stores.
