The "Barefoot Philanthropist" Hits 500-Mile Milestone

Tellman Knudson's bare feet in "tough" shape after running 15% of the way across America.

St. Clairsville, Ohio (November 2, 2009) -- A Vermont man running barefoot across America threw his arms up in triumph and shouted, "What's up, Ohio?!" as he hit the 500-mile mark of his barefoot run across America today. He was steadily padding along on Rte. 9 south here when he hit the mark.

Tellman Knudson, an internet marketing entrepreneur, is running barefoot from New York to Los Angeles to raise $100,000,000 for homeless youth. He is plodding his way southwest through the Ohio River Valley, with an ultimate goal of reaching the Santa Monica pier in Los Angeles in mid-winter.

"My feet are definitely feeling the effect of 500 miles of constantly changing pavement conditions," said Knudson on a break at the 501-mile mark. "The soles are pretty tough, but I have deep bruises on both heels that are giving me plenty of grief. That's my biggest challenge right now."

He pointed out that his body is handling the high mileage well, thanks to an accompanying trainer and regular consumption of "chia seed slurpies", a high-energy concoction he discovered after reading a popular ultra-running book, "Born to Run."

Knudson is keeping detailed records, photos and video as part of a "Longest Barefoot Journey" attempt in the Guinness Book of World Records.

About Tellman Knudson:

Tellman Knudson, 32, is a successful entrepreneur. He is CEO of Overcome Everything, Inc., ListBuildingClub and several other ventures. Tellman learned to leverage his ADHD, a condition that hinders many, to his creative and financial benefit. He has even been CEO of a busy hypno-therapy practice. Tellman was born with, but has overcome femoral antiversion, a leg condition that made simple walking difficult. He dedicated his high school years to running, competing in cross country events and running 7 miles to and from school each day. By strengthening his leg muscles, his condition eventually corrected itself without invasive surgery. He went on to set records in his school and competed for the state title. Tellman resides in Vermont with his wife and long-time partner, Jodi Meehan, and toddler son, Torger.

About RunTellmanRun:

Tellman Knudson will be the first person to run across America barefoot. He began his 3,200+ mile journey in Battery Park, New York on September 9 and heads west, running the equivalent of one marathon a day. The route follows historic Route 66 for much of the way, finishing on the pier in Santa Monica, California.

About Youth Homelessness:

Over two million youth (between the ages of 12 and 24) will experience at least one episode of homelessness each year and over 100,000 youth sleep on the street for six months or more in America. The vast majority of homeless, street-dependent youth will experience amplified risk of exposure to physical assault, rape, sexual exploitation, recruitment into gangs, and deepening mental health illnesses. Tellman Knudson has set a goal of raising $100 million dollars to help create the programs to reduce the risk these youth face on a daily basis, help get them off the streets, and rebuild their lives.
