Young Bollywood actress Jiah Khan has died. The 25-year-old was found dead by her mother late Monday at her Mumbai apartment. According to authorities, Khan appears to have committed suicide by hanging herself. Khan did not leave a suicide note.
Police sources say Khan was apparently depressed over her acting career and problems in her 1 year relationship with Suraj Pancholi, the son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab. Pancholi was the last person Khan spoke to on the phone before her death. Investigators are questioning him.
"Jiah was said to be very possessive about Suraj. Last night they exchanged text messages on their cell phones. Suraj also sent her a bouquet which she did not accept," says an insider.
Khan, whose real name is Nafisa Khan, made her big screen debut in 2007’s Nishabd. She later appeared in Ghajini in 2008 and Housefull in 2010.
"Never ever seen a debutante actress with more spunk and more spirit than Jiah when I was directing her in 'Nishabd'. The whole unit of 'Nishabd' was literally in love with Jiah,” Nishabd director Ram Gopal Varma tweeted. "No matter what her problem was I just so wish she applied her on-screen philosophy of 'Nishabd' to her own life. Shocked and choked to hear about Jiah.”
Khan’s Nishabd co-star Amitabh Bachchan wrote, "What!!! Jiah Khan??? what has happened? is this correct? unbelievable!!!."
