World Trader Coffee Sells RainForest Alliance Coffee to Protect the Environment and Farmers

The RainForest Alliance is similar to the Fair Trade Certification in that it is designed to help the environment and the rights of the farmers that grow the coffee. The basic guidelines are called the Sustainable Agriculture Standard and additional specific rules apply to coffee producers. Only coffees which are grown to the highest efforts to preserve their natural habitat are considered worthy to carry the RainForest Alliance Coffee seal.

There are over 25 million people in the tropics that depend on coffee, which is the backbone of the economy in many countries and the world’s second most traded commodity after oil. Coffee farmers face many large obstacles such as pests, oversupply are low prices, bad weather, and even unhelpful government policies. Additionally, in the 1970’s a new farming strategy called for the clearing of much of the forest to grow more beans but at the cost of the forest.

Thanks to the RainForest Alliance, and the Sustainable Agriculture Network, more farmers are able to bear the volatile swings in the global market. Farmers have the ability to control costs, gain efficiencies and improve the quality of their crops allowing them to grow gourmet coffee.

As with all of World Trader Coffee’s products, these coffees are the best of the best in their regions. Costa Rica Tarrazu Dota coffee for example, is well known for its rich body, acidity and sweet and spicy overtones. It is a complex and complete coffee experience that will surely help you wake up with a smile. As well as being in the RainForest Alliance, Costa Rica Tarrazu coffee is part of the Don Roberto coffee plantation at an altitude of 4,200 feet to 5,900 feet. The estate enjoys an ideal coffee growing microclimate made up of a combination of volcanic soil, sunlight and moisture.

Additionally, the World Trader Coffee RainForest Alliance section has two other gourmet coffee selections, such as Nicaraguan coffee and Bolivia Colonial Caranavi Coffee which are both coffees full of flavor and complex, yet enticing overtones.
