Bachelorette Recap: Desiree Deals With Drama

From a serious injury to a secret girlfriend, Desiree Hartsock dealt with plenty of drama this week on The Bachelorette.

The episode kicks off with Chris Harrison delivering a group date card for Mikey, Michael, Brooks, Chris, Brandon, Ben, Drew, Zack, Brad, and Brian. The guys meet Des and learn they are going to play dodgeball with the National Dodgeball League. After a few games, Harrison informs the guys that they will be split into two teams to play dodgeball for extra time with Des. The game gets off to a good start, but things take a dramatic turn when Brooks is suddenly injured. He is rushed to the hospital with a broken finger. The guys continue competing and the blue team - Ben, Drew, Zack, Brad, and Brian – end up winning. Des decides to have both teams join her for a cocktail party. Although Brooks arrives still dressed in his dodgeball outfit, Des gives the date rose to Chris for taking her to an intimate spot on the roof.

The next day as Des prepares for her one-on-one date with Kasey, Chris Harrison calls with some bad news – Brian still has a girlfriend named Stephanie and Stephanie is about to confront him at the mansion. Des quickly drives over and tries to coax Brian into telling the truth before his girlfriend arrives, but she isn’t successful. Stephanie slams Brian for lying to her and sleeping with her just days before he left for The Bachelorette. Des has him thrown off the show.

Des and Kasey then leave for their date. They are strapped into harnesses to dance on the side of a building on Sunset Boulevard. Later, strong winds ruin their intimate rooftop talk so they decide to get into the pool only to realize the water is freezing. Although the date was somewhat difficult, Des enjoyed Kasey’s company and gave him the date rose.

The second group date goes to James, Juan Pablo, Bryden, Dan, and Zak. The guys meet Des at Rose 'N' Thorn Ranch for “Cowboy Boot Camp,” which involves lessons from the Lone Ranger film’s stunt team on how to stage fight, shoot a gun and lasso.  After the boot camp, the guys must perform their new skills in a skit that involves rescuing Des. Des will pick a winner to accompany her on an advance screening of The Lone Ranger. Juan Pablo’s good looks and Spanish earn him the screening with Des. At a cocktail party later, Des gives James the date rose after he tells her about his dad’s health problems and asks her for reassurance.

Des decides to cancel the pre-rose ceremony cocktail party in favor of a fun pool party at the mansion. She sends Brandon and Dan packing at the rose ceremony.
