Rupert Murdoch and his third wife Wendi Deng are calling it quits. The media mogul filed for divorce from Deng on Thursday in New York. A rep says the 14-year-marriage has been “irretrievably broken” for over six months. Murdoch and Deng will reportedly share custody of their two daughters, Grace, 12, and Chloe, 10.
Murdoch, 82, and Deng, 44, tied the knot in 1999. They met 3 years earlier when Deng worked as an intern at Star TV, which is part of Murdoch’s media corporation News Corp. "I had heard of him before but never seen him," Deng previously said of meeting her husband for the first time. “My boss assigned me to introduce the Chinese market to him. He was very interested in Chinese culture and we talked a lot."
In 2011, Deng famously defended Murdoch against a foam pie attack when he was testifying before British parliament about News Corp.'s phone hacking scandal. Deng jumped on front of Murdoch and took a swipe at his attacker.
Murdoch, who is currently worth $11.2 billion, has one of the most expensive divorce settlements on record. He forked over $1.7 billion in his 1999 split from second wife Anna Murdoch Mann.
