The Chicago Bears and head coach Lovie Smith ended their contract negations on Wednesday in a manner fitting for the man who led his club to their first Super Bowl since the 1985 season.
Smith signed a four-year extension that will pay him $22 million to remain on the sideline. Heading into the 2007 Smith had been scheduled to earn $1.45 million but under his new contract he will receive an additional $2 million this season and then join the elite $5 million a year club in ’08.
