College Basketball AP Top 25: Georgia Tech Sends #8 North Carolina Tar Heels to Second Straight Loss.

Thaddeus Young scored 25 points and Anthony Morrow added 18 points as the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (19-10) beat the #8 North Carolina Tar Heels (24-6) 84-77.

Georgia Tech fell behind 7-0 early in the first half but responded with a 23-7 run that put them in front for good. The Yellow Jackets led by as many as 14in the first half before North Carolina cut the deficit in half and went into the locker room down 49-42.

In the second half Tech continued to hit shots when they needed to maintain their lead and the Tar Heels couldn’t get any closer than five.

Javaris Crittenton finished with 13 points and 11 assists for the Jackets and as a team they hit 45 percent of their three-pint attempts and 51 percent from the floor. The win boosts Georgia Tech’s chances of getting a bid to the NCAA Tournament but at 7-8 in the ACC they may need a win against Boston College on Sunday to feel comfortable.

The loss dropped the Tar Heels to 10-5 in the ACC, one game behind the Virginia Cavaliers. It was North Carolina’s second loss in a row and dealt a blow to their chances of earning a number one seed in the March Tournament.
