The Dallas Cowboys released Drew Bledsoe on Thursday in a move primarily made to free up salary cap room.
Bledsoe started all 16 games for the Cowboys in 2005 and had the starting position last season until Tony Romo stepped in and took the position.
In 14 NFL seasons Bledsoe has passed for 44,611 yards, seventh on the career list. He was the first overall pick by the New England Patriots. He played nine seasons with the Pats before moving to the Buffalo Bills in 2002.
Bledsoe would have received a $1 million roster bonus on Friday and was to make $4.5 million next season.
