American Idol Drops Four, Antonella Barba Stays

Despite receiving some strong criticism from the American Idol judges’ Antonella Barba has lived to sing another day on the hit reality show. While Barba may not have been a favorite of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul or Randy Jackson there were plenty in the voting public that backed the highly publicized Idol hopeful.

Barba survived while Alaina Alexander, Leslie Hunt, Nicholas Pedro and A.J. Tabaldo fell victim to the popularity contest that is phone voting.

Both Hunt and Tablado were sent packing after their rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” left no impression. Such is the case when your voting public is too young to recognize the artist that you’re covering.

While the Dixie Chicks cleaned up at the Grammy Awards, Alaina Alexander wasn’t as lucky on American Idol. Alexander covered “Not Ready To Make Nice” so the votes said they not willing to keep her around.

Nicholas Pedro covered the hit song “Fever” and left voters with all that goes with a fever, nausea, headache, etc. Pedro had been criticized by Simon for showing a lack of charisma and the voters seemed to agree.

While nobody really expected Barba to get the boot, it was evident on Wednesday night that she would need to step up her performance if she was going to survive through the next cuts. She may have been receiving a lot of support for the scandal involving revealing photographs of herself on the internet but the public won’t allow that to carry her all the way.
